Bollards

Traffic Bollards

Traffic bollards are available in a number of configurations including:

Fixed bollards: these barriers permanently restrict access and can either be bolted down (surface mounted) or concreted-in (sub-surface).

Fold-down bollards: These barriers are suitable for enabling occasional access and are generally bolt-down. Can be used for allowing maintenance access and are also ideal for use as driveway posts, or for car parking space protection. It’s important to note that when folded flat to the ground they can represent a trip hazard. This presents no problem if a car is parked within the restricted space but if this isn’t the case it’s recommended to use a removable bollard instead.

Retractable bollards: These provide access when retracted into the ground. Some retractable bollards are known as anti-ram bollards. The advantage of these bollards is that they represent no trip hazard when access is required, plus there’s no risk of them being removed. It’s important to note however that bollards require deep holes to a depth of 800 to 1300 mm, depending on model. This is why PITTMAN™  generally sell these bollards for anti-ram purposes since they are highly suitable for high security operations or when new yards are in the process of being poured.

Removable bollards: Also known as parking posts. These bollards act in conjunction with ground sockets and can be removed from the ground to allow access as required. Certain models are equipped with a flap or optional cover ensuring the empty socket presents no hazard when the post is not in use.

Impact recovery bollards: Fixed yet flexible bollards designed to spring back into shape upon impact.

Our traffic bollards are available in a range of materials and finishes. Hot-dipped galvanised bollards are a popular option because of their resiliency: Even when the external (powder) coating is scratched the bollard underneath won’t rust. All our Autobahn bollards feature hot-dip galvanisation and some are also powder coated.
